Cheap Eats in Paris: Pomze Restaurant
Pomze is one of my favorite Paris restaurants for lunch. With generous portions, fresh ingredients, and affordable prices, it’s high on my list of top cheap eats in Paris.
Pomze is a play on the word “pommes” (the French word for apples), because the dishes on their menu are based on apples. Get it? They serve the salad menu downstairs and outside. The restaurant menu, served upstairs, has heavier food like duck breast, lamb tagine, and steak.
The “Formules Boisson et Café Compris” includes “the big salad” for either 14€ or 16€ , depending on what kind of salad you get. (I discussed what “Formules” are in “Cheap Eats in Paris”). It comes with your choice of cider, Evian, a glass of red or white wine, or the house pure apple juice, which is unlike any juice you’ve ever bought at a supermarket in the states. The meal also includes a demitasse of French coffee afterward. It’s a fantastic meal for under 20 euros.
Order the Styrsö, a revelation of a smoked salmon salad, big enough for two. It comes in a huge bowl with salad server spoons, Olive Garden style, and it has green apple chunks, smoked salmon, radish, grapefruit, mushrooms, and a mini spinach flan on top. It’s served with a half-loaf of garlic bread, drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Yum.
Grab a table outside and people watch on the non-touristy part of Boulevard Haussman in the posh 8th arrondissement.
The last time I ate there, the guy sitting next to me, who happens to live next door to the restaurant, said the Styrsö was his favorite, but that the Boudoin lamb salad is also very good. He also highly recommended the restaurant. Duly noted!
The salads are only available at lunch Monday-Friday. Also, Pomze is closed on weekends during July and August, so go by during the week and enjoy a salad like none other at this unique Paris restaurant.
